Here To "Pump You Up"
August 30, 2007

One of the biggest improvements at the bases in Iraq deals with the fitness facilities. Pretty much all of the larger bases have at least one nice gym… with a variety of machines and equipment to choose from.
Looking for a cardio workout? You can find treadmills… stationary bikes… elliptical trainers… or more. How about pumping [...]

Running In Circles
August 28, 2007

Just as in the states… many soldiers take (or find) time to exercise… either to improve their personal fitness… or just to work off some stress. While some choose to run along roads (or sidewalks) on the larger bases… others are able to utilize an occasional track… as seen here.

Extra Faith

As I’ve mentioned previously… one of the unique aspects of a National Guard unit is the wide variety of backgrounds of its members. Our company is no different… and Sergeant G (aka The Bible Man) is an excellent example.
Sergeant G is a mechanic in our unit… but his future aspirations may lead him to [...]

NOT An Underdog Story
August 19, 2007

Recently we put together a little Dodgeball Tournament… staged in one of the gyms on our base. Eventually… it turned into one long game… punctuated briefly for different platoons to “change sides”. On a positive note… everyone had a good time… and an opportunity to work off some stress. However… some of [...]

Supervising His Troops
August 18, 2007

In an Army unit… the organization runs (mostly) like this. Teams are comprised of three or four soldiers… with the highest ranking being the Team Leader. Three or four teams make up a squad… and (usually) three squads compose a platoon. Above that level… the three or four system generally continues into [...]

Cousins In Arms
August 15, 2007

I’ve mentioned the Schaaf family… on several occasions… and their heavy committment to military service. Recently… one of the Lieutenant versions (pictured on the left) was able to go out on a mission with his cousin… the Sergeant type (who hails from our platoon). The Sergeant (shown on the right) was in charge [...]

Today’s Menu Is…
August 13, 2007

Whenever a unit deploys… it is common for some of the soldiers to be tasked to different organizations or to have additional duties. Our deployment has been no different… and one of the locations where some of our troops have been assigned is the Dining Facility (DFAC).
Most folks don’t enjoy these taskings… as it [...]

Thanking You Back For The Support
August 12, 2007

Yesterday’s blog showed a picture of our mailroom… as well as a couple of our fine young soldiers who had just received some goodies from home. In addition to the care packages that have been sent from friends and families back in the Heartland… we’ve been blessed with tremendous support from neighbors and area [...]

Packages From Home
August 11, 2007

One of the happiest times of the day for many soldiers is when they get to stop by and pick up mail and/or care packages from home. In charge of this highly important aspect of our mission are Willie and Specialist Brandenburgh. To say that we have received alot of support from our [...]
